Book Reviews About The Drug Ecstasy
Advanced Techniques of Clandestine Psychedelic & Amphetamine Manufacture
Covers a variety of topics in the field of clandestine chemistry and making amphetamines, MDMA (ecstasy), and other MDMA related chemicals.
Includes lessons on obtaining the chemicals needed to produce your chosen drug, electrolytic reduction of ephedrine into methamphetamine, hydrogenation methods using electrically generated hydrogen, phenylacetone syntheses, methylamine synthesis, making bromosafrole or related substances, and more.
Advanced Techniques of Clandestine... Altered State:
The Story of Ecstasy Culture and Acid House
A clearly written and very detailed discussion of the drug Ecstasy's effect upon people, their goals and politics, and upon society. Does not stress music, instead, discusses music as part of Ecstasy's effect upon people.
Describes Ecstasy as the euphoric peak of a lifetime. One's first Ecstasy experiences are strikingly empathic and stimulating. Tactile and verbal communication are delightful, and dancing and music acquire their own lives. With continued use Ecstasy users lose the initial ecstatic feeling.
--Richard Ballard
Altered State Amphetamine Syntheses:
Industrial Edition
Looks at various areas related to making amphetamines like the meth lab, the law, designer drugs, chemistry of the reactions, etc.
The majority of the book, however, details syntheses of amphetamine and related chemicals such as MDA, MDMA (ecstasy), DOB, TMA, PMA, MDEA (Eve), DOM (STP), methylcathinone, phenetermine, aminorex, ephedrine.
Amphetamine Syntheses Ecstasy:
Dance, Trance & Transformation
This book examines objectively the use of MDMA (Ecstasy, mole) in the US and Europe. Saunders reviews many aspects of the drug and its culture (eg his personal experience, history, psychological dangers, social effects, safety, psychotherapy and much more).
While the majority of readers probably use the drug or are thinking about using, non-users should read this work as well (it was recommended to me by a fellow parent who had bought it after learning that her 20 year old son had begun using MDMA). Saunders did not receive much publicity b/c of the taboo subject, although many reviewers and critics personally thanked him for a well written, informative book.
Ecstasy: Dance, Trance & Transformation E: Ecstasy
This book looks at the cultural impact of the drug Ecstasy from its early days in the gay club scene through today. Excerpts from newspaper articles, interviews with those involved in the early club scene are great.
The authors have done an admirable job at not taking sides on the ecstasy debate. They give treatment to medical information, police and government reports, newspaper accounts as well as the comments of users.
E: Ecstasy Ecstasy:
The Complete Guide:
A Comprehensive Look at the Risks and Benefits of MDMA
Written by an attending psychiatrist at New York's Bellevue Hospital and an authority on street drugs. The book provides reliable information to recreational users and the public.
After looking at MDMA's history, pharmacology, and legal status, the text discusses its potential clinical uses in the treatment of such psychiatric conditions as depression, schizophrenia, and post traumatic stress syndrome.
Other chapters look at MDMA-assisted psychotherapy, current international research, political issues, risks of recreational use and ways to minimize them are discussed.
Well researched yet written in very understandable language, this volume makes a strong case for studying and legalizing MDMA for therapeutic purposes, without minimizing the potential dangers of abuse.
Ecstasy: The Complete Guide... Ecstasy:
the MDMA Story
A good look at MDMA, including the flip-flops in its legal status, psychological effects, erotic implications, methods of use, possible future, health risks, chemical structure and a detailed description of its chemical synthesis.
Includes descriptions of the influence of Ecstasy on the rave scene, a discussion of the new studies, and a chemical analysis of x.
Ecstasy: the MDMA Story Generation Ecstasy:
Into the World of Techno and Rave Culture
The title is a bit misleading, this is about the history of rave culture (primarily in England), and has very little to do with psychedelic/ecstasy culture and its philosophy. The historical aspect of the book is a good overview, but extremely biased towards the hardcore and related genres of techno.
Generation Ecstasy (softcover) Generation Ecstasy (hardcover) In Pursuit of Ecstasy
Describes the MDMA experience itself, and how it is shaped by the social worlds of the users, the government, and the media; traces the history of the synthetic drug and public policy concerning it.
Also explores who uses it and why, people stop, and abuse and adverse reactions; and makes recommendations based on the findings.
In Pursuit of Ecstasy In Search of the Ultimate High:
Spiritual experience through psychoactives
A book for people who want to know more about the spiritual uses of psychoactives. The focus is on exploring the spiritual quest through the use of psychoactives, rather than focusing on the psychoactives themselves.
Personal accounts from people who have had a spiritual experience induced by a drug are combined with factual information on entheogens (drugs used for spiritual purposes), well researched background material and contacts.
Includes information on drugs and spirituality, world religions, shamanism for westerners, psychoactive explorers, rave spirituality, medical information and first aid, and more.
In Search of... Love Drugs
This book will show the chemist how to produce a large range MDMA (ecstasy) based drugs like MDMA, MDA, MDEA, and others. Anethol from pine oil, precursors made with plant oils such as dill and parsley.
A degree in chemistry is recommended when attempting to manufacture drugs. You won't understand this book if you don't understand chemistry.
Love Drugs PIHKAL:
A Chemical Love Story
The first part of this 1000 page book contains autobiographical accounts of the authors life history and experiments with psychoactive drugs.
The second half is about synthesis, effects, dosages, etc of hundreds of compounds in the phenethylamine family (mescaline, ecstasy, DOM, etc). Get this if you have any interest in the synthesis or effects of nearly any mind expanding drug.
PIHKAL: A Chemical Love Story Rave Culture:
an insider's overview
Based on hundreds of interviews with promoters, DJs and ravers from over thirty countries, Rave Culture; an insider's overview is a positive endorsement of rave and a comprehensive guidebook to the rave phenomenon for ravers and non-ravers alike.
The author, over the years has been a musician, world traveler, tree surgeon, street performer, producer, writer, director, chef, chauffeur, roofer, entrepreneur, husband, father and lover. He lives in Canada, with his wife and sons. The whole family raves regularly.
Rave Culture Secrets of Methamphetamine Manufacture:
Including Recipes for MDA, Ecstasy, And Other Psychedelic Amphetamines
It's filled with some great info, and after talking with people who actually manufacture drugs, this book is very accurate.
If you want to make psychedelic amphetamines yourself and are already familiar with chemistry you should have no problem producing your own with the aid of this book.
The manufacturing process is complex and dangerous, so if you have no prior chemistry or meth experience, producing meth is not recommended.
Secrets of Methamphetamine Manufacture Total Synthesis II
Comprehensive and detailed book on the underground production of ecstasy and amphetamines. Step by step synthesis recipes are given in extensive detail.
Chemists from around the world have contributed their favorite recipes and comments to provide the reader with massive insight and options. Lots of explanatory notes that seem to get omitted from a lot of journals.
A couple of semesters of organic chemistry lab are required. You will need some real chemistry knowledge if you want to even think about attempting a lot of stuff in this book.
Total Synthesis II The Love Drug:
