The most common drug testing procedures are
urine testing (the most common)
hair testing
perspiration testing
residue testing
Hair testing is very expensive and most companies would rather spend under 100 dollars for a urine test. (with the exception of some businesses that deal with large amounts of money)
The basic drug test used by almost all testing programs (work, school, sports, and legal), checks for 5 groups of substances
Cannabis (marijuana, hashish, thc based substances)
Cocaine (cocaine, crack, benzoylecognine)
Amphetamines (speed, amphetamines, methamphetamine, etc)
Opioids (heroin, oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, etc)
Phencyclidine (PCP)
Here is the approximate time different drugs will be detected using a urine test. This does not mean that the drug is not present in your body, just that you will probably pass the test, if you get tested. Some of the substances listed are not tested for, they have been included as a reference.
This is by no means exact, if you want to be sure, bring some clean urine with you to the test (if you can get away with making the switch), or do not use the drugs being tested for.
Amphetamine 1 to 3 days
Methamphetamine 1 to 4 days
Barbiturates (Short Acting 1 day) (Long Acting 2 to 3 weeks)
Cocaine 2 to 4 days
Codeine 2 to 5 days
Ecstasy 1 to 3 days
LSD 1 to 3 days
Marijuana 4 to 30 days or longer
Methadone 2 to 5 days
Mushrooms 1 to 3 days
Opioids (opiates) 2 to 5 days
PCP 2 to 4 days

Because street drugs are notoriously impure, you may actually be taking several other drugs in addition to, or instead of the drug you think you are taking.
Some legal OTC and prescription drugs can cause false positives (things as innocent as Vicks). If you are currently taking medication, consult your doctor or other professional to find out if you are at risk of showing a false positive.
Ecstasy
Although it is usually not checked for, it can show up as amphetamine on some tests.
Marijuana
There is a very wide gap here, 4 to 30 days or longer.
This is due to a number of factors including:
1) how much the person weighs
2) if they were a chronic or infrequent user
3) the persons metabolism
Try to have at least 30 clean days before being tested for marijuana use.
